MEMPHIS, TN - Morgan Shepherd piloted his #89 Racing With Jesus Chevrolet to the 23rd starting position in Saturday's Kroger On Track for the Cure 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park.
But while the qualifying woes seemed to be pushed aside at least for the weekend, Shepherd's racing performance wasn't as great as he had hoped.
Shepherd said just a handful of laps into Saturday afternoon's contest his brakes began to fade. He had to come to the garage by Lap 58 of the 250-circuit race as his front brakes had gone nearly completely away.
"These short tracks like this, especially those with little banking that make you slow down in the corners, eat the brakes up pretty fast," Shepherd said. "We had to go back and worry about making the race this week, rather than finishing the race. We accomplished our goal and we will take what we learned at EGR and make those changes to the cars for Texas, Phoenix and Homestead. Hopefully we can finish out the year with a handful of good finishes."
