BRISTOL, TN - Being outside the Top 30 in the owner's points championship battle makes you do some things you otherwise wouldn't do - and sometimes it costs you dearly.

Morgan Shepherd and his Faith Motorsports crew found that out the hard way on Saturday as the team failed to make the starting field in the Food City 250, the second consecutive week the Faith team as missed the starting grid.

"It is just a guessing game sometimes," team co-owner and driver Morgan Shepherd said after scrubbing the wall during his two-lap qualifying run at Bristol. "We thought we would have to pick up a lot to make the race so we made some changes to try to do that and it bit us."

Shepherd, a master at car control, said his #89 Chevrolet was so bad in the first corner of lap #1 that he scraped the wall, ruining any chance of clocking a good lap.

"Had we have backed up our practice time we would have been 25th. Last week we improved over a half-second on our practice time and missed the race. You just don't know what the other cars are going to do when it comes to qualifying so you just have to keep making changes and hope they make you faster."

This week the team head north of the border to Montreal for a trip around the famed road course track. Shepherd's last road course race three weeks ago at Watkins Glen produced a 21st place finish.
