RADFORD, VA - Morgan Shepherd and his Faith Motorsports crew spent March 9 running the half-mile oval at Motor Mile Speedway in an effort to fine-tune its Bristol setup for next weekend.
"It was a good test," said driver Morgan Shepherd. "In fact, we ran the fastest times we have ever run up there so we found some things we had been lacking."
Shepherd said the crew will use the information to have the #89 Racing With Jesus Chevrolet ready to race when the team unloads at Bristol late next week.
"Being in the Top 30 has been such a blessing," he said. "It has been a long time since we have been able to go to the track worried about how the car will race, rather than if we can qualify."
And the new outlook appears to be working. Shepherd has solidly made the field mid-pack in each of the first three races of 2009.
"Our goal is to never have to use those provisional starts, but it is a comfort knowing we have them if we have a bad week somewhere along the way."
